GREEN SHIPPING MANAGEMENT

Environmentally friendly operations have been widely discussed. As transport service providers that facilitate trade flows within the worldwide supply chain, most of the shipping companies initiated the process of responding to the important environmental concerns by means of embracing the newly proposed "green shipping practices" in order to green their operations.

GSPs are considered to be right there among the environmental management practices that are commonly undertaken by shipping companies in performing shipping activities. GSPs include calculation of the carbon footprint of the shipping routes as well as using alternative shipping equipment with the intention to reduce environmental damage in transporting cargoes.

One of the examples is the operations of RSC, standing for the River Shuttle Containers, a service provided by the CMA CGM to transfer the containers between main/feeder ports by vessels having higher carrying capacity than trucks. Compared with the use of trucks, the use of the feeder ships to provide shuttle services reduces carbon emissions...

ANNUAL REPORT ON THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE INDIAN OCEAN REGION (2015)

Currently, the basis of the revival of world economy is still unsteady with the risks of economic downturn. The developed economies of USA, Europe, and Japan and the emerging market economies represented by China and India are both faced with the pressure to seek the momentum mechanism for economic growth to resuscitate or stabilize economy.

From the perspective of maintaining economic growth rate, the divergence among the economies is quite salient. The impetus to promote the real economy through international trade and OFDI is quite insufficient. For both the developed economies and the developing economies, they are faced with the challenge to adjust the industrial structure and further economic reform to prevent the economy from declining. To a certain extent, this is both the "cause" brought by the globalization and also the "effect" of the globalization of economy.

Faced with the globalization, some are happy and some are worried. The globalization against the background of the entire world not only enables an unstoppable multipolar trend in the world, but also makes the Golden Age of sea right gone forever. As a matter of fact, this world has never lacked in the impetus to progress, and what the world lacks is only the new cooperation concepts and mechanisms to promote economic growth in different eras and at different stages of development...

THE CHANGING FACE OF MARITIME POWER

The end stage of the "Cold War" has seriously affected debates concerning the maritime doctrine and strategy as well as the maritime operations and technologies involved. This, in turn, has eventually led to the reconsideration of the theoretical fundamentals and practical side of the maritime power.

The present publication features the content prepared by a group of internationally recognized industry experts, addressing subject topics in a very overarching and systematic manner, and bringing together the results of the joint efforts of the widely renowned scholars in a single volume.

The thorough analysis conducted by the authors is moving on to the exploration of the impact that the changed international environment had on the shipping operations; they have also analyzed how exactly the emerging technological advances are forming this process.

When preparing the material of the book, they have used United Kingdom case study to illustrate the main thesis. The publication concludes with the professional evaluation of how the changes of maritime power influence the western navy fleets. This is an interesting source of information for the persons seriously dealing with the problems covered.

TRENDS AND CHALLENGES IN MARITIME ENERGY MANAGEMENT

The present publication was prepared by the World Maritime University to provide all interested parties with the general overview of the ongoing challenges and trends in the modern MEM, standing for the maritime energy management. In order for the energy efficient and low-carbon-emission future to be eventually achieved, all actions shall be duly coordinated and this is where the energy management is coming into action, providing the regulatory framework that is directly aimed at the reduction of the GHG emissions commonly originating from the activities of the international maritime shipping industry.

The content of the book will familiarize you with the current situation in this field, paving the proper way for all of us to find the correct solutions to those challenges. There are six areas covered by the authors, starting from the applicable regulations and then proceeding to the ship design considering all aspects of energy efficiency, port operations, and economic dimensions and, finally, marine renewable energy and different alternative fuels – here you will find information about the wind-assistant propulsion, as well. The book will be helpful to both practitioners and people having the academic interest in the subject.

THE DUE DILIGENCE IN MARITIME TRANSPORTATION IN THE TECHNOLOGICAL ERA

The present publication was prepared to discuss the major problems associated with the liabilities of the modern marine transporters, with the main emphasis placed on the role played by the recently introduced technological advances currently employed in order to provide necessary support to the maritime transportation.

The author has duly examined the Hague Rules and provided the detailed and informative overview of the precedent standard together with the historical background and development. Two studies have been presented and analyzed, taken from the American and British case laws. The content of the publication is presented is a way making the understanding of the material easier even to the non-professionals, while of course some general knowledge of the subject is expected from the reader.

The marine transportation of the cargo is the most effective transportation means and the most popular of those applied in the international trade. Nowadays, the economies of the majority of the countries is measured based on the payment balance of the exported/imported goods, and this is the reason why the international maritime shipping industry is considered critically important to both private and public sector.

THE SHIPPING INDUSTRY, OCEAN GOVERNANCE AND ENVIRONMENTAL LAW IN THE PARADIGM SHIFT

This book prepared by Patrick Donner in collaboration with Tafsir Johannson is examining the legal regime together with the associated geographical issues and stakeholder claims persisting in the Arctic region. The authors have closely dealt with the multifarious theories that are commonly relating to the conflicting interests and to the parties to whom the maritime industry shall be accountable.

One of the unique aspects of this volume is the provision of analysis corporate social responsibility and alternatives that pertain to the Arctic and strike a balance to be maintained between the ongoing commercialization of the industry and the concepts and laws of the ocean governance. The document puts forward subject ocean governance concept and checks to what extent the concept could be addressed in the region.

Another distinguishing feature of the book is the fact that the author has not limited it to examination of the climate change effects; they have created a transparent connection between commercial interests and claims, proceeding to scrutinize the Arctic Council's efforts and the inputs done by the individual littoral states. The authors are following subject equation using the original theories.
