This official technology review was released by Wartsila to cover the low speed marine diesels of RTA48T/58T/68T specifically designed to provide the most economic propulsion for the oil tankers and bulk carriers with the deadweight varying between 2000 and 15000 tons, i.e. including all types - Handysize/Handymax and Capesize/Suezmax.

Among the benefits of these engines we need to underline the their competitive cost, optimal power output as well as shaft speed, low costs of technical maintenance, high durability and reliability, three-year period between overhauls, compliance of the fuel with applicable MARPOL requirements etc.

The present Operating and Maintenance Instructions contain following information that will be necessary for the people dealing with the subject equipment - general technical data and important safety issues to consider, transportation matters, description of the pump, installation and mounting, start-up and shutdown, maintenance and repair, operating faults, causes and remedial action, associated documentation.

These instructions are containing the basic safety precautions relating to the installation and subsequent operation of the pumps plus their routine maintenance; this is the reason why we would definitely consider is essential for all crew members to carefully check the whole content of this document prior to the installation and starting.

The present package contains six separate documents all referring to the TYCO products. The documents specifically selected to make this technical archive contains following papers: T1000 Marine Controller User Manual and Datasheet, Data and Specifications for the Autopulse IQ-318 Agent Releasing Control Panel and same set of documents for the Autopulse IQ-636X and IQ-636-2 Intelligent Addressable Fire Alarm Systems, supplemented with the Engineering Specifications for the Inergen Clean Agent Fire Suppression System (with Autopulse Control System). Will be of some use for crew members commonly dealing with the fire safety of the vessels.

The present pack released by Nippon Electric Industry Company consists of two documents. The first is the Instruction Manual for TDC control equipment (i.e. synchro-unit) which is used to control the KDIST and LUFFING functions of both main and sub-cranes (for HOIST/LUFF functions the equipment carries out a synchronous control).

This part is covering the main principles of operation, identification of each part, installation of the crane and its adjustment, operating procedures, troubleshooting, synchro-transmitter inspection, DC source inspection, relay replacing and card replacing method, test functions. The second part of the pack contains mostly the drawings of the crane. This pack will be most probably helpful for crane operators of Nagasaki cranes as well as professionals carrying out the maintenance and/or repair.

The present technical manual was officially released by Westerbeke Corporation in order to assist people dealing with everyday operation and technical maintenance of Westerbeke 40 marine diesel engines and WPDS marine diesel generators.

The Westerbeke 40 was previously designated Westerbeke Four-107 and this designation incorporated a basic engine model known variously as 4-99, 4-107, and 4-108. Throughout the technical manual the reader will notice references to those engines model numbers. The numbers are used to distinguish among the three major engineering changes which have been already made to this marine diesel engine.

Technical Manual for Westerbeke 10TWO and 12B-TWO marine diesel engines. The publication includes manuals for WMD marine diesel generators (3 KW-60 Hz and 2.4 KW-50 Hz). Officially released by Westerbeke in 1993. The document covers installation, operation and maintenance issues, engine overhaul, other overhaul (marine engine electrical system, external cooling system, transmissions), generator sets, and is supplemented by the service bulletins. Apart from the technical data stated above, this document will be providing brief information necessary for users to better understand the principles of diesel engines.

The Gill WindObserver II (WindObserver FC) wind sensor is a very robust, lightweight unit with no moving parts, outputting wind speed and direction. The units of wind speed, output rate and formats are all user selectable. The WindObserver II (WindObserver FC) is supplied with de-icing heating (recommended if icing is likely).

The WindObserver II (WindObserver FC) can be used in conjunction with a PC, data logger or other device, provided it is compatible with the RS422 output. The output message format is configured in Polar. NMEA (0183 Version 3); Continuous output, other formats can be configured as detailed in Section 7 Message Formats & Options. WindObserver II (WindObserver FC) may be configured using standard communications software on a PC. This is explained in Section 8 Configuring... 

The Manual provides the operators with an excellent overview of all functions of the UniMACS DPT 3500 systems commonly used on board vessels for executing the maneuvering operations in either of three modes - manual, auto or mixed. The content has been intentionally organized to meet all practical needs of the advanced and average system operators. It opens with some intro and safety notes supplemented with the starting instructions.

Then there is a discussion about the user interface and several examples of working. The authors have also explained the major control functions in detail plus provided a thorough overview of the advance functions; the discussion of the menu controls/procedures is also there, with some additional info for the maintainers.
