Here is one of the most popular and effective training courses specifically prepared and released by the recognized professionals of the MAN B&W Diesel, who are there among the world leaders in the field of marine engineering. The content of this training course starts with some very general description of ME Engine - in this section a brief historical information has been provided, for instance - the founding of this company, development of the marine engines, diesel chronicle, some brief theoretical information pertaining to the marine diesel engine construction as well as operation and maintenance principles, major technical specifications and nomenclature of the engines, etc.
The second part is dedicated to the ME Concept and contains necessary information on the control systems, tacho systems, performance and maneuvering systems. The following two parts of this course are addressing the Hydraulic Power Supply and Hydraulic Cylinder Units, correspondingly. They are in turn followed by the sections covering the Fuel and Exhaust Systems of the marine diesel engines.
Finally, the last chapters of this training will provide necessary info on the MOP Displays as well as PMI Systems. It goes without saying that this course is highly recommended to the people having any dealing with the marine diesel engines, regardless of their experience and position, i.e. from students to professional marine engineers.
Here is a very good compilation of the articles related to the maritime engineering and maritime technology. There are nine main parts in this book covering such areas as ship control and propulsion, ship design, onboard systems, ship traffic, risk and reliability, ship structures, ship dynamics and hydrodynamics, renewable energy, wave and wind modeling.
For more than twenty-five years, the Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering branch of the Portuguese Association of Engineers and the Centre for Marine Technology and Engineering of the Instituto Superior Tecnico, Technical University of Lisbon, have been organizing national conferences on Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture. Such meetings had the objective of bringing together Portuguese professionals and giving them an opportunity to present and discuss the ongoing technical activities. They have been attended by up to 200 participants. The papers presented in these meetings have been collected in a series of books written in Portuguese.
At the same time, as the conferences have become more mature, the international contacts have also increased and the industry became more international in such a way that the fact that the conference was in Portuguese started to hinder its further development with wider participation. Therefore, for the session that was planned for 2010, a decision was made to experiment with having also papers in English, mixed with the usual papers in Portuguese.
The national meetings have normally taken place around the month of November but, given that IST was completing 100 years of existence in May 2011, another decision was made to postpone this Conference to 10-12 May 2011 so as to associate it also with the commemorations of the 100 years of IST...
Nowadays, the primary source of propulsion power used on board ships is the diesel engine, and it shall be noted that the power requirement ad revolution rate depend of the form of the vessel's hull and design of propeller. That is why, in order to work out the proper solution that would be optimal, some general technical knowledge would be required.
The present publication shall be treated as the attempt of the authors to explain the basic terms that are used regarding the vessel types, dimensions and hull forms and also clarify some of the most important parameters relating to the resistance of the ship's hull, condition of the propeller as well as the associated load diagram.
From the other side, it should be taken into account that this book is not intended to provide explanations on the propulsion-related calculations. The book has been divided into three major parts which, in fact, could easily be considered as separate booklets - it means that some of the information that is mentioned in one chapter might appear in another chapter.
This handbook is worldwide treated as one of the best available reference sources providing all necessary info related to the pumps and all related components of the associated pumping systems and it has been highly recommended to anyone who requires a really comprehensive resource on pumping arrangements.
The publication is indeed very informative and should definitely be considered a "must-have" volume aimed to all personnel dealing with the operation as well as periodical maintenance of pumps and their systems. It will most probably cover any question or problem that you may face when dealing with the pumps.
This one presents a major and updated revision of the classic pump handbook published some time ago with the ultimate author's intention to provide all interested parties with the practical data and important "know-how" on the pump design, their specification, selection and purchasing, operation, maintenance and troubleshooting, covering virtually all types of pumps.
That is why it is an essential working tool for all mechanical engineers representing many industries. The material presented in the publication is mainly based on the valuable contribution of more seventy industry professionals and recommend it to anyone willing to get or refresh the technical knowledge of the pumps together with the equipment and systems.
The present reference book was specifically prepared and released for the ultimate purpose of making various mathematical formulas and technical data, as well as methods of design and construction of the pressure vessels that are available for all involved people, including designers, detailers and all other professionals dealing mainly with the pressure vessels.
Subject specialists often experience serious difficulties when trying to find the required technical data and solutions because subject information is usually scattered throughout different books. The ultimate aim of the author was to bring together all required material in a single volume and present subject info in a form convenient to the end user. The author has also excluded some of the information that is not required or is required very rarely, in order to provide the maximum serviceability and reader-friendliness to the book - such approach affected the special construction methods and seldom occurring loadings.
Please note that the handbook is only dealing with the pressure vessels that are made of the ferrous material by means of welding - in fact, most of the pressure vessels fall under this category. Most of the material contained in the book has been taken from the other relevant works, re-worked and arranged in more convenient way.
