The third version of the information booklet developed and officially released by the UKHO, i.e. United Kingdom Hydrographic Office, in collaboration with the UK Harbor Masters' Association. The content of the present publication is intended to guide readers to the proper handled exchange of the maritime and hydrographic information. The volume has been significantly updated in order to reflect all recent technological advances introduced to enable better data management as well as greater accuracy of the data.
The ultimate goal is to make ports safer and more efficient since it will also allow them to attract more ships in size and number. and process more goods, eventually contributing to the overall success of the economics at both local and national levels. The book will start with the description of the responsibilities of the UKHO, harbor masters and masters of the vessels entering a port.
The main body of the document covers the data regulation, quality and exchange, and distribution of the MSI, standing for the Maritime Safety Information. It concludes with the information on the port agreements. Three appendixes contain list of horizontal datums and grids, metadata form, and contacts.
