This volume is elaborating on combination of the basic theoretical approaches and common practices of the preliminary design of the ship. The intention of the author was to support the introductory training courses of ship design as a textbook. Taking this into account, we may consider this book as so useful one to students of naval architecture as well as of all related disciplines.

We are quite sure that the book would actually serve as an excellent reference source not only for the students but even for the practicing naval architects, ship officers, marine engineers and anyone interested in ship design theory plus practical methodologies applied to the estimation of the ship's basic properties and main dimensions together with the other elements of design.

There are five appendices complementing the main content of the book providing some additional information on the different ships types and their characteristics, historical background, regulatory documentation, description of the relational method, etc. Definitely recommended reading for both professional and future ship designers who will benefit from the thoroughly prepared information provided in the volume.
