RUDDER, PROPELLER AND HULL INTERACTION BY RANS

One of the most important tasks in the shipping industry is the education of the ship officers and improvement of the maneuverability of the ships, that is why the requirements applicable to these activities play the critical role in the increasing of the safety at sea. In turn, this has increased the industry interest in numerical simulators considered a very strong tool to be used during the investigation of the ship's maneuverability and also for training purposes.

As a result, stronger requirements have been established concerning the reliability of the maneuvering models on which the mechanisms of the simulator is based on, as well as to their accuracy and overall technical quality. The simulators have proven effective, but it shall be noted that there are several areas where some additional knowledge would be appreciated and useful for improvement of the models.

And one of such areas would be the interaction between the ship's rudder, her propeller and hull, playing a top role in successful modeling of the ship's maneuvering. The present document is fully devoted to this problem and its content will be interesting for the people dealing with scientific investigations and researches in this area.

ADVANCED SHIP DESIGN FOR POLLUTION PREVENTION

The present publication is in fact a nice collection of selected technical papers that reflect the teaching materials intended for use during the MNA (Master of Naval Architecture) course that was, in turn, developed in the European ASDEPP project. This abbreviation stands for the advanced ship design for the prevention of pollution.

Among the topics covered within this publication are the structural reliability and strength of the vessel, collision and grounding of the vessel treated as the criteria in design of the various structures of the vessel, modeling of the various environmental loads, application of the probabilistic approach to the damage stability of the vessel, and others.

The content of the work is showing the latest developments and scientific trends in contemporary naval architecture. The book shall definitely be considered a very valuable source of reference information for the naval architects, engineers, students and all other people engaged in the design and maintenance of the vessels and other marine constructions.

LNG SHIP CONSTRUCTION

The publication was prepared by the LNG shipping industry professional and officially released by the world respected Braemar Engineering. The intention of the author was to give the guidance to all people I need for the LNG specific information that could be applied when performing their day to day duties. The book provides general introduction and historical background, followed with the explanation of the commonly used terms and basics of the vessel design.

Then, the reader will find the information about the shipbuilding contracts, types of the ships and their development. The materials used for construction of the vessels have been covered in a separate section together with the strength calculations. The next chapter is devoted to the regulatory framework including the industry rules, regulations, international conventions, codes etc.

In fact, the book will give all knowledge about the LNG ship construction at the shipyard, and the list of topics covered by the author includes but is not limited to the shipyard layout and material testing, design features, ship surveys and sea trials, steel cutting, welding, drydocking, and so many other activities. This is a perfect one for those wanting to know a bit more about the LNG ships.

MARINE STRUCTURAL DESIGN CALCULATIONS

This perfectly arranged guidebook was written to provide the readers with the reference source covering the design calculations of the offshore platforms, which are the main marine structures in the offshore oil-and-gas industry, with the particular attention paid to all critical issues which the designers usually face.

It also provides readers with the descriptions of the simple design instruments based on the popular international codes by ISO, API plus other commonly applied standards and practices used in marine structure design. Coordination among the different engineering disciplines and managing the engineering phase are also discussed in the book.

A separate chapter of the book has been devoted to the modeling by means of the PDMS and SACS software. The content includes more than three hundred of representative calculations related to the marine design and structural analysis.

The real life case studies and worked examples age given providing some additional information and supplementing the main text. Numerous practically useful checklists, tables and design schemes have also been provided for easy reference.

DESIGN OF SHIP HULL STRUCTURES — A PRACTICAL GUIDE FOR ENGINEERS

The team of authors of the present book, consisting of four world recognized industry experts, has managed to reach the ultimate declared goal, namely to demonstrate the readers the condensed technical experience in designing the ship hull structures looked from the practical point of view.

The content of the volume is arranged in three separate parts presenting the fundamentals of the design, as well as the design theory and its application to the ship hulls. The topics covered in the publication have been treated very comprehensively with a strong emphasis made on the reliability and efficiency of the ship hull structures.

The authors of the book have introduced their own experiences with the dramatically increased ship hull sizes. In addition to the above, they have introduced the vessel types with a highest possible degree of specialization.

The authors have also performed an analysis of the early failures of those "new" hull structures in order to provide the informative illustrations showing why the design of the structures should be conducted on several levels to ensure that the proper loading has been applied and also to make sure that there is an absolutely clear understanding of the behavior of the local structures. An indispensable training source for the students in ship design and construction as well as the practicing engineers and designers.

VERY LARGE FLOATING STRUCTURES

The present volume continues the book devoted to the large floating structures available here at our website. It will provide the readers with a truly comprehensive and professional treatment of subject structures analyzed together with their relationship with the sea habitats, coastal waters, current flow, and taking into consideration all aspects involved.

The author has looked into the structural and hydro-elastic analysis of the structures at both cell and overall levels, maintenance system, commonly used anti-corrosion arrangements, breakwater analysis and design matters, wave properties that are considered critically important for the correct estimation of the loading of the very large floating structures; note that it is also covering virtually all latest developments in the field with the primary emphasis made on the Mega-Float.

The content has been very well illustrated with the informative and clear pictures, and supplemented with the numerous detailed drawings; there are also equations included for the math modeling and analysis. The book will be ideal for the design professionals and students of structural engineering.
