The preparation of the content of this third release of the Handbook nearly ten years after the release of the original one, required a full revision of the major portion of the book, not only because of the recent technical developments that occurred in technology and application, but also because of the identification of the critical factors in the protection systems.
The authors has also taken into account the developments in the recognized standards and commonly applicable regulations. The electro-chemical corrosion and associated corrosion protection are based on the same foundation. The scientific basis of the present volume has been formed by the uniform terminology provided in the DIN 219 manual. Our understanding of the problem has been significantly improved thanks to the descriptions of the newly developed systems of protection and questions related to the utilization of the current and potential distribution plus the influence of the high tension.
There are some serious advances in the IR-free potential measurement, data evaluation and intensive measuring techniques. The publication is highly recommended to the people dealing with the prevention of corrosion of the ship hulls, i.e. workers of the ship construction and repair industries who will definitely appreciate the content of the volume.
