PACKAGE LIMITATION

The information in the present publication has been compiled from the materials previously released by Gard AS. The book starts with The Hague Rules and The Hague-Visby Rules followed by the SDR Protocol 1979 and The Hamburg Rules. The rest of the publication is dedicated to the maps and data tables for Africa, North America, South America, Asia and Europe. The document was compiled and released by the Gard As in 2009.

The publication will be great interest to people directly involved in the activities relating to the marine insurance. The maps are showing the application of the Rules - i.e. Hague Rules, Principles of Hague Rules, Hague-Visby Rules, Principles of Hague-Visby Rules, or Hamburg Rules and Principles of Hamburg Rules in the certain geographical areas. The data tables are arranged in four columns; the first column lists the countries, the second column shows the rule to apply, i.e. Hague/Hague-Visby/Hamburg or their equivalent; the third column provides the date the Rule was enacted; finally, the last column contains the actual package limitation.

For example, for Burkina Faso we will see that the Rules to apply will be Hamburg Rules enacted in November 1992, and the associated package limitation would be SDR 835 per unit/package or 2.5 per kg of the cargo's gross weight, whichever higher...

The document contains all required information on how the shipping industry is polluting the planet's atmosphere, and what exactly the regulations contained in the revised Annex VI would mean for your vessel.

MARITIME SECURITY MANUAL — GUIDANCE FOR PORT FACILITIES, PORTS AND SHIPS

The present official Maritime Security Manual was released by the IMO with the objective to provide all necessary guidance for the port facilities, ports and ships. It will provide the required consolidated technical guidance on the amendments to SOLAS, that are directly related to the security. Subject amendments have been included in a newly added Chapter XI-2 of this Convention.

The guidance that is provided in this Manual has been mainly addressed to the government officials exercising the responsibilities that the MSM (standing for the "Maritime Security Measures") are placing on the contracting governments, workers of the port facilities exercising the responsibilities that the MSM are placing on ports, and the workers of the shipping companies exercising the responsibilities placed by the MSM on the shipping companies and vessels operated by those companies.

The content of the publication will also be relevant to the people who are responsible for the security in ports, on board ships, or at port facilities. The publication consists of five major sections. The first section describes the content and declared purpose of the volume and it also provides a general overview of the MSM, while the second, third and fourth sections give required guidance on the security responsibilities that the MSM place on governments, port facilities plus shipping companies; finally, the last section describes the established methodology for the security assessment...​

MARINE POLLUTION PREVENTION POCKET CHECKLIST — REDUCING THE RISK OF PORT STATE CONTROL DETENTIONS

The MARPOL infringements could easily result in the seafarers and the management of the shipping company being held liable to the real criminal prosecution and even imprisonment for the violation of the requirements outlined in the text of the MARPOL convention and its annexes or falsification of the associated shipboard records. Moreover, the serious risks are there associated with the huge fines.

The authors of this booklet have conducted a thorough investigation and analysis of the specifically collected and selected data including the PSC, i.e. port state control deficiencies directly related to the prevention of the marine pollution from ships. MANILA AMENDMENTS TO THE STCW CONVENTION — A QUICK GUIDE FOR SEAFARERS

We are offering you to have a glance in this short guide that have been worked out and intended to familiarize all seafarers with the "Manila Amendments" to the IMO STCW Convention of 2010. This publication was released by the ISF, standing for the "International Shipping Federation", in collaboration with the ICS, i.e. the "International Chamber of Shipping". These amendments are in force since 1 January 2012.

MANUAL ON OIL POLLUTION — SECTION 1 — PREVENTION

The present volume is the official one released by IMO and containing the Sec. 1 of the Manual on Oil Pollution. This publication opens with some intro that is followed by a comprehensive glossary of definitions/abbreviations used throughout the text of the book.

The requirements applicable to all ships and for tankers are listed in the first part; the book also describes oil tanker operations carried out at berths (including offshore and SPM moorings), piers and jetties, ship to ship transfer of crude oil and various petroleum products at anchor and also while underway, operations at FSO/FPSO facilities... Some examples of checklists are provided in the Appendix.

The volume will provide the readers with the required practical guidance relating to the pollution prevention; it will also describe the established procedures for proper handling of various oil cargoes, STS operations, bunkering, operations in iced waters, etc.

Moreover, a good overview of the proven pollution prevention practices has also been provided, serving as the useful complement to the recognized shipping industry standards that are available today. HOW TO REDUCE BUNKER CLAIMS AND ASSOCIATED COSTS

The P&I publication addressing the reduction of the potential claims and costs associated with the bunkering. It is intended to provide the crew members and other interested parties with the information that would help them with reducing of the risks of both quality and quality claims and also with minimization of the associated costs.

Commonly, the disputed related to the quality and quantity of the fuel are difficult to resolve; the satisfactory outcome would mainly rely on the evidence that is provided by the crew. The correct and duly detailed documentation is considered vitally important. The steps demonstrated in the present publication shall be followed as necessary in order to assist with prevention of the associated problems and also to provide the basic reference should the claim arise.

The quantity claims commonly arise during the delivery and can actually get minimized - to reach this, the correct procedures shall be followed. If a cargo shortage cannot be identified and if the correct actions have not been undertaken during the delivery then it would be next to impossible to recover any potential losses.
