The low-voltage installation complying with the IEC standards are covered.

The main idea of the authors was to provide engineers with the clear and step by step information for the full study of the installation. In fact, this is a quite compact yet remarkably comprehensive publication which covers all applicable standards and techniques, making it a best choice for the electrical engineering professionals. The intention is to facilitate the proper and timely implementation of the IEC standards by the designers of the electrical equipment and contractors.

This latest edition of the guide considers all recent changes in the techniques, applicable standards and regulatory framework. The book will take you all the way starting from the general rules of the design of electrical installation and connection of the LV/MV distribution networks, and up to the harmonic management and EMC guidelines, so you will find everything covered.

SHIPBOARD ELECTROMAGNETICS

Electromagnetics is commonly referred to as the interaction of two fields, namely electric and magnetic, in association with the so-called radiated energy. So the main focus here in this book is made on the devices normally found installed on board vessels. Such devices emit electromagnetic waves or sense them, and the subject waves belong to the spectrum between the extremely low and extremely high frequencies.

The authors did not address the light waves and some other portions of the spectrum in the pages of this volume in depth. Every effort was made by them to avoid complicated mathematical treatment. The book opens with the historical overview of the subject, followed with the chapter on EME, standing for the shipboard electromagnetic environment. Then we will proceed to the EMC, i.e. electromagnetic capability, and EMI, i.e. electromagnetic interference.

Three chapters devoted to the EMR, EMP and EMA, meaning the electromagnetic radiation hazards, pulse, and assessment, conclude the main part of the publication. The glossary will provide explanation of the terminology used in the book. This is quite rare volume and it is recommended to be on the bookshelf of any ship electrician.

THE ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING HANDBOOK

The very first edition of the volume was published back in 1993 and immediately gained worldwide popularity. The second edition offered to your attention is even better since it reflects all advances and developments in the field of electrical engineering. The book is deservedly considered one of the most comprehensive volumes featuring almost three thousand pages with valuable information including definitions, formulas and tables.

The content was developed based on the contributions of more than two hundred recognized specialists. With substantially revised and updated material, the book will be a great reference tool for any electrical engineer. The material is conveniently arranged in twelve sections encompassing all electrical engineering fields, starting with the electric circuits and signal processing. Then, the readers will proceed to the electromagnetics and electronics, electrical devices and other important topics.

All explanations are very clear and the coverage is really impressive. The publication shall be on the bookshelf of any practicing electrical engineer to be used as a ready reference, and also every student of electrical engineer who will definitely benefit from the easy-to-understand explanations.

ELECTRIC DRIVES — DESIGN METHODOLOGY

The publication is dealing with the design methodology of the electric drives. The book starts with the explanation of what electric drive is. In fact, it is a system converting electric energy into mechanical energy by means of the electric motor and peripherals that are required for transmission, supply and control of the energy.

The design concept of such system is characteristic of the drive. And, as it is a case with any other system and equipment, the overall quality of it is commonly evaluated on the basis of the weakest component. The electric drives shall always be duly adapted to the intended application.

The present volume covers the driven bodies and transmission including their types and characteristics, resolution and speed adaptation etc., electric motors and their characterization including parametric expression and scaling laws, global design of the electric drives, electrical and electronic peripheral items, sensors of various types, current and protection sensors, direct and integrated drives including their working principle and realization. In short, the publication provides all necessary information on the design of electric drives that will be needful in the industry.

A GUIDE TO SHIPS ELECTROTECHNOLOGY

An excellent guide to the electrical technology on board ships released by the MarineInsight team. Any vessel is like a floating city enjoying nearly all privileges that are commonly available to any of those operational set-ups ashore. Like any city, the vessel requires some fundamental amenities in order to sustain life on boars, and the most important of the amenities would be electrical power, which is generated by shipboard generator or alternator working together.

The material in this booklet is arranged in four sections. The first section provides the general information on power generation, shipboard HV systems and electrical propulsion of vessels. The second section of the book is devoted to the electrical instruments including PMMC and Megger, thermocouples, rectifiers and amplifiers together with the associated circuits.

The next section addresses electrical safety on board ship, covering safety devices fitted on the main switchboard, electrical fires and insulation, safety and precautions, generator safety matters and blackouts. The closing section of the volume is dealing with the electrical maintenance including electrical faults, relay maintenance, motor overhaul, maintenance of bus bars and alternators, and routine inspection of electrical starter panel.

GENERAL LECTURES ON ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING

One of the most classic books on electrical engineering. First released more than a century ago, the book still remains one of the best available resources providing clear explanations of the theoretical fundamentals making them easily understandable to anyone.

The lectures contained in the book are quite general, and deal with the most important problems of electrical engineering including generation of electrical energy and its control, transmission of energy, its distribution and utilization. It means that the readers will find all required information about the related to the electrical systems and their components, operation of such systems and apparatus under all different conditions covering design of the electrical systems as well.

Note, however, that the design of the electrical apparatus has been discussed only to the extent necessary to get proper understanding of their operation and make further judgment on their application. The treatment of the subject in this book is mainly descriptive not mathematical; it contains the discussion of various applications of the electricity, apparatus and means, and methods of application together with the advantages and disadvantages of different methods determining the choice of particular method and apparatus...
