DNV GL FERRY AND RO—RO UPDATE

Today, we all see the signs showing us that the new construction market is slowly recovering. The issues reating to the fuel efficiency are considered very important for the new ship designs and strict SOx requirements have been already introduced in the SECAs.

However, we will soon see how the European Union enforces strict max content of the sulphur of 0.5% for passenger vessels operating outside SECAs. Apart from the emissions, this paper also addresses some safety issues - for example, the fires occurring on ro-ro decks. Such fires have attracted so much of attention during past years. We all have to take this very seriously as this matter is of critical importance.

Many investigations have been performed in this regard, but there have been no any significant improvement so far. In addition to all stated above, this booklet addresses hybrid vessels, safety in the ferry industry, drive-on bunkering, scrubbers and their installation, some consideration for emergency equipment fuel, LNG-fuelled ferries and even 3D printing for the marine industry applications..
