The guidelines contained in this publication released by China Register are applicable to the EGCS, standing for the exhaust gas cleaning systems and they may also serve as useful and practical references to be used by the manufactures of marine products, ship owners and shipyards carrying out required testing on subject units either on board vessels or at test bed.
They specify the technical requirements for the testing, certification and verification of the exhaust gas cleaning systems and are also intended to demonstrate that the sulphur oxide emissions from vessels having EGC systems installed on board are in due compliance with the MARPOL regulations. The publication opens with general information on application of the requirements followed by the survey and certification requirements.
The main part of the document is dealing with the approval, safety and certification requirements presented in schemes A and B including plans and documents, emission testing and measurements, technical manual and verification procedures to be used on board, OMM, i.e. onboard monitoring manual, ship compliance information and washwater related information. There is some additional information in the appendices concluding the guidebook.
