Written by the professional master mariner, sharing his great practical experience with the readers, and released by the Nautical Institute as part of the Loss Prevention Guides series, this publication is intended to serve as a handy guidebook explaining the essential types of the insurance that are normally specific to the maritime shipping industry.
Among the topics covered by the author there are ship’s hull and machinery, P&I, standing for the protection and indemnity, war risks and strikes, and other aspects to be considered. The idea of the author was to provide the masters and deck officers of the vessels with some clear understanding of how exactly the principles of marine insurance are applied. Also, the author explains the critical importance of the role played by the crew in preventing the accidents and, consequently, claims. However, he also provides instructions to follow in the cases where the accidents, unfortunately, has taken place.
The books opens with some general background shedding some light on the nature of the marine insurance as such, and then you will go from the insurance requirements and underlying principles and up to the handing of the claims. Please note that the volume should be best used with the accompanying title, namely The Mariner’s Role in Collecting Evidence.
