Working on board any OSV, i.e. offshore supply vessel, is normally very intensive job which is also highly demanding of all people involved, including ratings, officers and personnel. The difficulties associated with the work offshore include long hours of work, hazardous shipboard operations, harsh weather, slipper deck surface and many others.

The shipboard personnel shall be duly aware of the established procedures and follow them at all times in order to improve the chances to stay safe. The PPE, i.e. personal protective equipment, is mandatory for use. The content of this training booklet is made of five major modules. The first two modules are dealing with loading and discharging bulk cargoes as well as handling deck cargo.

The preparation and operation inside the five hundred meter zone is covered in the third module. The last two modules address the personal safety of the crew members on deck and the common problems relating to the tiredness and fatigue. Four appendices to the main part of the volume contain checklists for the wet and dry bulk transfer, 500-metre safety zone checklist, and usage of the VHF radios. This booklet is most useful when used together with the video training on the same topic and we recommend you to check both.
