The Liverpool port of England has been treated as home town for maybe the oldest British Black community. The members of subject community date back the history of their entity at the XIX century, linking its establishing to the global wanderings and to the settlement of the African seafarers. The author of this interesting volume has given her readers a good and thorough analysis of how this story supports the local identity and politic, and this topic has become a window onto the race, nation and place politics in Britain.
The content of this publication by Jacqueline Nassy also provides examination of the rise of Black identity capturing the existing contradictions of Black diasporas in post-colonial Liverpool. According to the reviews submitted by readers, the book is one of the most sophisticated and nuanced volumes on this topic available today; in addition, it is ethnographically rigorous.
The volume has stretched the analysis mentioned above well beyond by political and somatic theoretical and reference debates. It shall definitely be considered a very important and, what is important, original and valuable contribution to the understanding the subjectivity of the Diaspora in this particular location...
An excellent collection of the safety posters developed in the frame of the Loss Prevention Program. This set is made of nearly sixty different posters. All of them are very informative and may be used on board ships to inform crew members and all visitors about the proper cargo handling techniques, signage, collision prevention etc. The posters are of high quality therefore they may be printed out at any size.
The ColRegs-related posters are the following - Responsibility, Safe Speed, Look Out, Risk of Collision, Heading on Situation, Overtaking, Crossing Situation, Action to Avoid Collision, Traffic Separation Scheme. Active by Give Way Vessel and Active by Stand On Vessel, and finally the one describing Restricted Visibility. The "If Only" posters cover the entry into enclosed spaces, pilot boarding arrangements and lifeboat launching systems, safe ship access and working aloft, persons in distress and manual handling of heavy cargoes, hot works and collisions, mooring operations, oily water separators, and heavy weather.
The "Safe Work" posters cover lifting operations and bridge management, safety management, working aloft and in the enclosed spaces, fall preventing devices and protective equipment, ship handling, planned maintenance etc. This is not a full list of posters - have a look and check the content, there are so many papers that may be of practical use both on board and ashore.
The very first general us of the radars was when they were applied for detecting the aircrafts and surface ships in the course of the Second World War. At that time and for the intended use of the radar, the weather used to be treated as a real nuisance since it produced serious echo patterns making detection of the ships and aircrafts much more difficult and sometimes even impossible at all.
People did every effort to minimize subject weather echoes and came to the opinion that the weather information that can be obtained from the radars would be a very important and valuable supplement to the conventional techniques of weather observing that were available. Having the information received from both resources, they could perform a proper analysis and define the echoes.
The present publication provides information about the fundamentals of radars, including propagation and detection matters, radar measurements and reports, radar echo intensities etc. You will wind the instructions on proper reporting of the typical weather situations. The list of tables is provided as a supplemental information covering the characteristics of radars, intensity levels, and other info expected to be practically useful.
This is a good collection of the classification and safety marks relating to the marine transportation of the dangerous goods. As we know, the carriage of the dangerous goods is governed by the provisions of the IMDG Code, covering nine classes of the dangerous goods, namely the explosives and gases, liquids and solids of flammable nature, organic peroxides and oxidizing substances, infectious and poisonous substances, corrosive and radioactive substances and, finally, all others combined under the umbrella of miscellaneous substances.
The booklet starts with the general introduction to the requirements of the Code and a general outline of the above listed classes together with their characteristics imposing additional requirements of their marine transportation. This is followed by the clear and concise explanations of the terminology applied. The main part of the document provides the safety marks that shall be used when the dangerous goods are transported on board your vessel. Note that the idea of the authors was to provide general introduction and not the detailed specific instructions on the transportation. The provisions of the IMDG Code and other relevant publications shall be referred to at all times.
The present manual has been developed by the NASC and officially released with the ultimate intention to serve as a guidance in meeting the requirements to teaching/testing the skills required for Navy swimming and also water survival. It has been designed to further promote the instructional plus testing standardization. The content of the manual is reflecting the modern methods and established instructional procedures together with the safety considerations all making this paper a useful reference source.
Note that it is not aimed to contravene in any was the specialized aquatic techniques or applicable requirements that are set forth in the NETC documents. Among the topics covered within this manual there are the breath control t avoid the hyper-ventilation and water aspiration, tips on staying afloat and conservation of the energy as well as prevention of the exhaustion and support of head above the surface of the water when wearing different organizational equipment.
The readers will find valuable instructions on efficient swimming and abandoning ships, underwater swimming including swimming in rough seas and through surface debris and burning oil. All skills and techniques contained in this document are applicable to teaching people how to properly cope with several unique aspects of sea survival...
Well, all of us know that all engines are always constructed in full accordance with the different recognized standards as well as technical specifications, sometimes not optimized to meeting the initial design. For the technical performance of the engines to be maximized, they shall be duly balanced and blueprinted to the tolerances that the fabrication facility have adhered to.
In this publication, the experienced and recognized expert builder of the engines Mike Mavrigian has made an attempt to describe and illustrate the most discriminating techniques of the engine building. Though the balancing and blueprinting are quite time consuming processes, the investment in time will eventually pay off with the outstanding performance of the built engine. This volume is covering all parts of the engines including blocks and crankshafts, pistons, connecting rods, intake manifolds and cylinder heads, camshafts, tools used for the measuring and, of course, final engine assembly techniques.
The balancing and blueprinting have been treated as an accepted and commonly established practice for maximization of the engine performance for more than fifty years. Specialists who are investing their time resources to make up the engine precisely in this manner, will be rewarded with a good performance results.
The comprehensively updated and seriously revised new release of the best-selling handbook will be giving its readers the required fundamental guidance together with the practical recommendations for the arrangement and layout, design and building of modern sea port structures for all specialists engages in the design, planning, layout and actual construction of the harbor and berth structures.
This third release of the book includes various berth structures that are now required because of the new cargo handling arrangements and equipment that are directly affecting the loadings acting on those structures as well as the larger ships that require considerably increased depth of the water. The latest advances in the relevant technical knowledge from the very first release of this handbook have all been included here, accompanied with the specific updates related to the calculations of wind, waves and current forces, some general safety calculations, evaluation and practical recommendations. It is a really great reference tool.
One of the best features of this volume is that its content includes the whole original reference making in possible for the readers to back track most part of the information. Definitely recommended by all people who have already used this book. A real must-have for any professional in the field.
Here is the second, fully updated and significantly expanded edition of the book presenting a truly comprehensive approach to the processing of different underwater areas and all steps required to be made to conduct the associated operations.
Ronald Becker, the author of the volume, has summarized the historical background, and covers the physics and law that are commonly applicable to the underwater investigations; the content of the volume also includes such the important topics as formation of the teams, distribution of roles, deployment and, finally, the accountability. The author has explained the procedures that could make a difference in the final results of different water-related incidents and debunked the popular myths usually associated with the submerged evidence.
This new edition of the volume contains some new chapters covering the photography, preservation of the collected evidence, release of the crime scene, contaminated sites etc. Moreover, the content of the book includes the information relating to the organizing the teams and crime investigation.
Note that there are more than a hundred of color images supplementing the main text of the book. Since the science of the water-related investigation is relatively young, this field requires useful and accurate education sources and this is one of the attempts to provide people with the reference tool...
