The present book contains seventeen selected articles that have been derived from the documents presented in the course of the XVIII Euromech Colloquim dedicated to this problem and held some years ago. Nowadays, the science of damage mechanics is at quite high level of maturity and it is used for the numerous practical applications related to the various techniques of numerical simulation.
There have been many attempts made in building the effective numerical instruments for the simulation of the damage initiation and its further growth in the different mechanical structures under the small/large deformation hypotheses. The main objective of the subject colloquium was to gather the very latest technological developments and advances in the numerical/computational aspects of the damage mechanics, together with the simulation of the current researches and challenged in the field expected in the future. The author of the volume is inviting the readers to perform their own explorations and hopes that all of them will find this volume very interesting, practical, and what is the most important, stimulating further research work in this area.
Among the topics covered there are gradient damage formulation, ductile damage, non-local damage models, modeling of the 3D anisotropic damage, energy dissipation, finite elastoplasticity, ductile rupture, necking phenomenon, aluminum materials, vibration tests and so many other important topics.
The book provides a complete and deep coverage of the materials used in mechanical engineering, together with their principles and details of processing and handling. The text of the book is supplemented with the numerous sample projects and examples. The author has clearly depicted all relevant topics and gave quite adequate coverage with the examples so that the mechanical engineering students could appreciate the relevance of the subject materials to the disciplines they study.
Among the key features fo the volume we would mention a coverage of the fundamental principles of selection of materials; the text follows the program of the introductory courses in material science; it is directed toward the mechanical engineering and is intended to introduce the materials generally used, together with the descriptions of their properties defining the functional characteristics and use, as well as the typical issues encountered in the course of the application because of the improper handing or processing of the materials, NDT procedures used for detection and correction of the problems, etc.
Moreover, several live examples and project analyses have been included. In short, the content of the volume is covering literally all aspects of the engineering materials considered necessary for the successful use of such materials in various mechanical systems and their components.
We would definitely say that this publication shall be on the bookshelf of any piping engineer. Moreover, it is recommended reading for any person dealing with any of the hull systems. Prepared by the team of the PFI experts, the content of the volume will provide all necessary information relating to the vessels and tanks.
The book consists of three chapters starting with the chapter describing various tank styles and giving some insight - it covers the horizontal and vertical storage tanks including open top tanks, skid tanks, crude oil production tanks and transport tanks, and many others. The second chapter has been devoted to the Code and non-Code vessels and here the readers will find info about the ASME Code together with the definitions used therein, characteristics of different materials etc.
The third section of the book is dealing with the tank and vessel accessories such as the stock heads, elliptical heads, as well as the various observation equipment, packing support plates, distributors and all other accessories. The publication is aimed to provide a good technical reference to any engineer and has already proven very effective. Just download it and have it readily available at all times.
This third release of the perfect pictorial directory, providing readers with the informative drawings and easy-to-follow and understand technical descriptions of the proven components and mechanisms, together with the mechanical devices. The carefully compiled index of the publication allows readers to quickly find any specific mechanical component.
They will get all required assistance in recycling the successful and effective mechanical inventions into the newly developed products, designing the very basic mechanisms from scratch using the info provided in a form of tutorial text and supplemented with the mathematical formulas etc. The content of the volume will let them to stay in the loop of the ongoing and of the future trends and achievements in the field of mechanical engineering as well as machine design, using the up-to-date treatments of the various motion control systems, associated software, industrial robots, etc.
The present book includes the technical drawings and descriptions of more than two thousand mechanisms and devices. The publication has been specifically developed and aimed at the people who like to spend their time in the workshops inventing new stuff. The drawings contained in the book will be of great help in understanding the operating principles of the mechanical devices.
The publication is covering most important aspects of the corrosion engineering using the extensive theoretical descriptions of the main principles of the corrosion theory, as well as the passivity and strategies for the prevention of corrosion, together with the design of various corrosion prevention systems. The volume has been significantly updated with the results obtained from the relevant documents and reviews in the last decades.
The content includes numerous solved case studies taken from the real life, chapters dedicated to the corrosion analysis and associated problems, also provided with the explanations and correct answers - they all have been included to help readers with getting the proper understanding of the fundamental principles of corrosion at the metal interfaces and also how the corrosion rates may be controlled or at least inhibited. The publication also covers the multi-disciplinary nature of the subject field of engineering.
The book is extensively covering the theory of corrosion, selection of the materials and designs, as well as the effective engineering strategies for protection. It also contains more than five hundred of solved problems, informative data diagrams, case studies plus end-chapter problems. It could be used as a textbook for the corrosion courses or even for the self-study.
According to the reviews by the readers, this volume is dealing with nearly every imaginable types of bearing, together with their lubricants etc., it is remarkably easy-to-follow and comprehensive. Avraham Hansoy, the author of the book, has managed to provide the coverage of all basic principles of the selection and design of the bearings, as well as of the tribology; he has also discussed the fundamental physical principles of selection and lubrication of the bearings, paying particular attention to the design computations, some of the advanced materials used for the fabrication of the bearings, arrangement and housing of the bearings, seals and other important aspects, including the very latest technical developments in bearings for the high-speed engines.
He has been exploring the unique technical solutions to challenge in the bearing design problems and has presented quite rare but important case studies, for example the hydrodynamic bearings and rolling-element bearings arranged in series, together with the adjustable hydrostatic pads used in the larger bearings. The author has also focused on the design considerations and associated calculations that are considered specific to the journal bearings, rolling-element and hydrostatic bearings. In short, the content of the present volume will be very useful for any person involved in design of the bearings regardless of their type.
A very good collection of essential formulas, definitions and data tables, as well as general information, was released to provide readers with the math information that is required by students, practicing engineers, technicians and scientists in their day-to-day activities. The publication has been recognized as a very versatile resource; the layout of the present fourth edition of the volume has been changed in comparison to the previous release.
The content of the book has been streamlined in order to ensure that the information contained in it can be accessed even more quickly - and such approach has made this book a very handy companion which can be used on-site, in the office or even for the self-study. The author of the volume has managed to cover all necessary information, from mathematics to differential equations and theory of probability. All theoretical items have been provided with succinct and very clear explanations and also illustrated with more than three hundred line drawings and five hundred worked exampled taken from the real life.
The focus throughout the volume has been made on the provision of practical instruments required to solve the important mathematical problems in a quick and efficient way in engineering contexts. The way of presentation used by the author puts all the answers at the reader's fingerprints...
Nowadays, the US industry has approximately three hundred billion bucks being spent on the plant operations and maintenance, with some eighty percent of those funds spent on the correction of the chronicle failures of machines and systems, plus people. The machines are systems are becoming even more complex - as a consequence, subject problem can worsen; therefore, quite clear and strongly pressing need exists to establish the equipment management programs incorporating the considerations that would be essential to the effective maintenance.
This book will present readers with an effective strategy of preservation of the equipment function, avoiding the negative consequences of the failures, and also ensuring the productive capacity of the equipment. Subject strategy is incorporating human errors, safety matters, plus the quality and software maintenance, with all other considerations directly relating to the reliability/maintainability of the equipment, and costing.
The author of this volume has successfully gathered the information from different technical sources, integrating the very latest technological developments achieved in mechanical engineering into the readily available practical plans, specifically prepared for optimizing the maintenance activities, paying attention to the extension of the working life of the subject equipment, and minimization of the failures...
