This is the official training course developed by the specialists of the JUMBO company to cover the heavy cargo handling matters. The material of the course is arranged in three major sections. The first section is dealing with the stability of the ship while the second section has been devoted to lifting heavy cargoes. the last section of the training volume addresses seafastening of the cargo carried on board JUMBO ships.
The booklet opens with the summary of the information related to the ship's stability theory including all associated calculations; the loading and discharging checklist has also been provided. Another issue covered in this section is the incorrect use of the stability pontoons for anti-heeling, and the so-called Kahn Rule for determining the stability when lifting heavy loads.
The second section contains information about stability of lifted cargoes, the stability moment and range, using lifting beams, asymmetric lifting systems, forces in lifting wires and shackles, spreader beams including those connected by means of shackles... This is not even the half of the topics covered in the pages of this useful training booklet. We would definitely recommend this volume to all persons engaged in transportation of the heavy cargoes on board marine vessels, and particularly on JUMBO ships.
