The present book is mainly intended to cover the rapidly growing field of the engines. Its content was prepared by the recognized expert in the industry and has been presented in a very simple manner using a lucid language; the text has been supplemented with numerous informative diagrammatic illustrations. Some of the topics have been explained from the very fundamentals in order to help readers in building a good understanding of the relevant technical concepts and to emphasize the relationships existing there between the conceptual understanding and approaches applied for solving the problems.
The readers are believed to have some basic idea of thermodynamics as well as of fluid mechanics and heat transfer. The content of the volume has been arranged in eighteen chapters covering all important topics and comprehensively discussing the basics of both SI, i.e. spark ignition engines and CI, i.e. the compression ignition engines, operating on two- and four-stroke cycles. It is also covering the fundamentals of the design and operation of such engines, as well as the analysis of their operating cycles, combustion in CI/SI engines, associated combustion charts, fuels and techniques of their injection, friction of the details of the engine and lubricating the engines, ignition matters, transfer of heat, engine cooling systems, testing and performance of the engines -in fact every aspect of design, construction and operation of any engine.
