The present training program on oily water and separators supplemented with this training video, belongs to the series made of four parts that cover different important and practical aspects of the management of wastes commonly generated in the engine room of the ships. The other three parts of the training package cover the sewage and waste water treatment, the oil record book and, finally, the sludge and the incinerator.

Each of the programs also consists of a booklet and video. Upon completion of this particular part of the training, the trainees will be able to properly identify all typical sources of oily water and know how to minimize the amount of such water reaching the bilges; they will also know how to perform the control of the oily water content so that the shipboard oily water separator and oil content monitor, i.e. OWS and OCM can work properly.

They will get due understanding of the working principles of both separator and content meter and know the main features of operation and maintenance of the separators including important safety precautions. The program is highly recommended to the crew members of any vessel as well as to the students since it provides useful recommendations and instructions that, when duly followed, will allow better waste management.
