We all know that the safety is the most important aspect of the maritime shipping industry. Nowadays there are serious safety, economical and environmental risks commonly experiences by the ship traffic. These risks shall be controlled by the bridge crew members during the ship operation. This task is quite challenging and complicated since most of the accidents actually result from human errors.
Unfortunately, the risks cannot be fully eliminated, but we can at least reduce their likelihood. This can be achieved through decreasing the overall risk of the operations. The present application handbook was released with the intention to improve the level of the maritime safety by increasing the awareness of the crew members about the human error management; the necessary instructions shall be provided and followed in different real life situations.
The book shall be used by maritime industry professionals and all persons in charge of the development of various safety management systems and schemes. The content of the handbook has been divided in three main sections covering the risk management, bridge resource management and human error management. The booklet is highly recommended o all people concerned with maritime safety.
