BASIC AND ADVANCE OF DIESEL ENGINE

An educational textbook prepared by the specialists of the Yanmar company and officially released for training purposes. The volume covers the medium-speed/medium-size marine diesel engines. The diesel engines offer many advantages such as good durability and compatibility with the fuels of relatively low quality, excellent handling performance and others, in addition to the high thermal efficiency.

The main content of the volume is based on the textbook used for the familiarization course of the new hires at Yanmar company; it has been revised to concentrate on the medium-type and medium-speed diesel engines. The descriptions are ranging from the fundamental operating principles of the diesel engines and their construction, performance of the engines, fuel consumption as well as combustion technology.

The authors hope that this textbook will aid both people learning the fundamentals of the engines and those who are actually involved in the handling and application of the marine diesel engines. Four major chapters of the volume are dealing with the diesel engine basics, construction and functions of the engines, fuel and lube oil, and environmental response. The SI unit conversion table is attached for reference.
