Here is the second edition of maybe the best textbook on marine engineering. The volume is truly excellent when used for preparing to the relevant examinations. Note, however, that it will be equally useful and interesting to the practical marine engineering professionals who can use it to refresh their knowledge.

The material is arranged in fifteen chapters. The first chapter of the book covers the regulations applicable to the machinery arrangements and equipment installed on board modern ships. The second chapter is devoted to the class and statutory surveys conducted by the marine inspectors to evaluate the degree of the vessel’s compliance with the rules, regulations, conventions and codes.

The safety management at sea is dealt with in the third chapter, followed with the one on the drydocking surveys and what shall be considered when preparing for same. After that, the readers will proceed to the basic marine insurance aspects since they are all expected to have some essential knowledge.

The next two chapters are dealing with the structural integrity of the ship and stability, including the best practice for cargo placement and handling, wand the relevant training to be provided for the crew members. The remaining chapters will shed some light on the new construction of ships, software application in the shipping industry, and human relations. The closing chapter addresses the gas and chemical carriers. Make sure you have also checked Vol. 1 and Vol. 3.
