The present booklet and associated training video film are devoted to the bunkering of the ships. If bunkering is carried out in a wrong way, it can lead to such undesired consequences such as health problems for the personnel, oil spills, damage occurring to the shipboard equipment as well as infringement of relevant national and international legislation.
The content of this package is primarily aimed at ship officers and rating, providing required practical guidance and analysis of the case studies, checklists and other resources, supplemented with the numerous extracts from the MARPOL Annex VI dealing with air pollution prevention. Bunker fuel is considered main source of energy commonly used in ships. This fuel is consumed by the main engine of the vessel driving the vessel along, and by the auxiliary engines feeding the heating and lighting etc.
The material presented in the booklet is arranged in several sections covering ordering of the bunker fuel, necessary preparations, the bunkering process itself including shore bunkering and other aspects. There are assessment questions to track the training progress and several appendices with sample forms, regulations and other information.
